So, How Have I Done So Far?

In case you were wondering, here are some of the results of my social media marketing campaign:

I am proud to say that we have successfully launched and promoted the industry’s first interactive career management site dedicated to the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) career within the pharmaceutical industry and marketed it entirely through Social Media channels. Since we started our company, I have been able to network and get MSL professionals from around the world involved with our social media campaigns. As a result, we were even featured at 3 international conferences in London and Berlin. In fact, we collaborated with a company called eyeforpharma.com on the creation of the first ever, international KOL program where my husband, Dr. Samuel Dyer was invited as a Featured speaker and a moderator at the meeting in Berlin. To utilize his expertise in the pharmaceutical field, we decided to also create and launch another website MSLCORPORATION.com to serve as a platform for MSL consulting and career management advice.

Building a Company With Social Media

And now, here are some analytic figures:
As I continued to network, implement the marketing strategy, and develop the business, traffic on our website increased of over 700% in the first quarter. Our statistical reports indicated successful global penetration of our social media campaign. So far, we have also increased the number of registered users through our extensive social marketing campaign resulting in a 70% increase in registered candidates within only 2 months. We not only increased the number of registered companies and recruiters by 43% within the first 2 months, but we also increased our sales (online job postings) by 30% from the previous month. After I created a sales letter and sent it to 1,200 MSL professionals globally (managers, HR, recruiters) we received a 25% increase of online registrations shortly after. Just from the previous month we were able to build relationships with 270 new customers, which is a 45% increase. Since we first launched we have initiated various promotion campaigns involving social media and press release announcements that have been featured in large media companies including PC Magazine.com.
This has been an intensive and interesting journey, but this initiative wouldn’t have been possible, or as successful without the help of new technologies and social media platforms.

LinkedIn Revolution?

After I wrote two Press Releases and submitting them to multiple PR websites and connecting them to all our social media sites, I then created a LinkedIn group dedicated to our new company.

I then wrote an extensive description for both the group and who the group is intended for and includes: The Medical Science Liaison World group will focus on bringing free resources (articles, blog postings, videos and news) from around the world for Medical Science Liaisons who are a part of or would like to become a part of the MSL WORLD community. The group will serve as a communication channel for MSLs, MSL Candidates, Recruiters, Employers and others within the Medical Science Liaison community. This is an open community that will allow anyone to discuss, learn or share information related the MSL role. The Medical Science Liaison Profession is expanding exponentially and it is clear that the MSL role will continue to be a vital component to the success of Pharmaceutical, Biotech, CRO, and Medical Device companies. However, finding the right Medical Science Liaison talent is often difficult and challenging.

MSL WORLD.com was created to meet this challenge. MSL WORLD, through the use of advanced technology, is an interactive site connecting exclusively MSL candidates to recruiters and employers in a state of the art-first of its kind- venue.

As a career management center for the Medical Science Liaison career, MSL WORLD has been designed exclusively to connect those looking to pursue a career as a Medical Science Liaison as well as experienced MSL candidates with hiring managers, recruiters, and HR personnel. For those interested in breaking into the field, MSL WORLD provides help and insight into beginning a career as an MSL while giving employers / recruiters an ideal place to match the most appropriate new talent as well as experienced MSL talent with their needs. In addition, MSL WORLD also provides important resources to help advance your career including articles on resume writing tips, interview preparation, daily industry news, and current salary reviews.

On the first night of creating the group we had over 350 people join and now have over 1000 members from over 42 countries.  I then linked the all the social media groups together so that when I make an announcement or provide any information on the LinkedIn group it gets posted to all our social media accounts. I think it has been a fantastic success!  Does anyone have any suggestions for improvements?

Creating the first iPhone App

For the next step we decided to have an iPhone App created for the new company and this was significant because it would represent the first iPhone App ever for the Medical Science Liaison role.  I knew that this would be a very important part of the social media campaign and marketing piece.  I hired a development team and took the best features from the top global job boards to get the most complete functions and benefits for both candidates and employers.  After working on it for almost 6 months we finally had it complete with a complete matching design to the website and I then decided to write a full Press Release and submit it to the same Press Release websites as I previously submitted the announcement of the website.  We got an immediate response to the iPhone App and the following is the Press Release I wrote and used all of our social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube) to help spread the word:

Using a Press Release and Social Media

In my previous post I briefly described how social media helped me and my husband, Dr. Samuel Dyer, start a new company after realizing that there is a niche market for the specific role of the Medical Science Liaison within the pharmaceutical industry which was totally unexplored. As the Director of Marketing, my next step in the process was to write a few press releases and link them to our various social media campaigns that I created including our Twitter Account, Facebook Fan page, and YouTube Channel.  The first Press Release was the announcement of our website being created and launched and this is the Press Release I wrote:

MSL WORLD, the first ever career management website established exclusively to serving the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, is announcing its new website, www.MSLWORLD.com, has been  officially launched.
“MSL WORLD is the industry’s first and only comprehensive niche career management site 100% dedicated, focused and built to serve the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Career,” said Dr. Samuel Dyer, who established the company with the simple goal to create a single avenue for MSL candidates to connect with and build relationships with recruiters and employers.   “The Medical Science Liaison role is rapidly expanding and has become a vital component to the success of Pharmaceutical, Biotech, CRO, and Medical Device companies.  It has been clear that this has been needed for a long time,” said Dr. Samuel Dyer, CEO and founder of MSL World who during his 11 year career has led MSL teams in the U.S. and in more than 60 countries around the world.
Recruiters and employers who visit the MSL WORLD site will find specific tools and resources to help them improve the effectiveness of their recruitment processes. “Our resume database search capabilities allow you to quickly and efficiently find candidates with specialized skill sets that match desired criteria,” said Dr. Dyer.
He further explained that due to their exclusive focus on the MSL Career, employees and recruiters will find results faster and easier than on other, less targeted websites and will produce more viable candidates per posting. In addition, recruiters are able to create their own unique screening questions to ensure “only” the most qualified MSL applicants apply to their postings.

The website also has numerous FREE resources for MSL candidates including articles specific to the MSL role, a blog, a global job board for only MSL roles, the first iPhone App for the MSL role that MSLs can search for global roles, videos, a mobile version for those that do not use an iPhone and other resources.  The MSL World website allows users to personalize their experience by allowing customized MSL Job and Resume fields using specific search criteria including the first ever website that allows you to search MSL jobs by Therapeutic Area.
Additionally, through the use of social media (Facebook Fan page, You Tube Channel, Twitter, Linked In group, Medical Science Liaison Blog), the site’s aim is to connect MSL candidates with the most up to date available MSL jobs and career information anywhere allowing candidates to make the most well-informed career management decisions.  MSL World provides all these services in a very user-friendly environment for the benefit of employers and MSL candidates.

The Social Media “Syndrome” Affecting the Pharmaceutical Community

I first became enamored with the concept of social media and sites like Facebook LinkedIn, and YouTube back in 2007 when I first opened an account on LinkedIn and thought that it was the coolest thing I had ever heard.  I was living back in my home country of Albania, which is a developing country in southeast Europe and communication technologies had just started to flourish there. It wasn’t common for someone to have a public or social account of any kind. Not until the advent of Facebook at least and its global popularity.

Back then I had no idea to what extent and depth the social media concept would go. Who would have predicted that almost every aspect of our life could be so perfectly arranged into a virtual reality to the point that a business is not a business anymore without a Facebook Fan Page, Twitter account, or some sort of social media marketing campaign.  It didn’t take long even for the pharmaceutical industry to catch up with the big social media hype.

In fact, the main idea of this blog is to provide you with the history and information about the social media effects in the pharmaceutical community and I will specifically focus on the role of social media for a specific role within the pharmaceutical industry.  My background is in sales and my American husband is a doctor who works as an executive in the pharmaceutical industry.  My career took a different turn when we decided to start a new company with the simple goal of creating a virtual “meeting place” for a particular profession within the Pharma industry.  The website consists of a number of career resources, including career articles, job posting, the possibility to connect with recruiters and post a resume, etc.  After 11 years of expertise in his field my husband realized that the role that he had been managing for so long, not only is such a niche position, but lacked external recognition, networking opportunities, and most importantly, there was no information available - either online or in print - to people wanting to break into this role called the Medical Science Liaison.

It took a little over a year and a half for us to launch this website (www.mslworld.com). Combining and integrating the social media component, jobs, articles, blog, and launching an awareness campaign was not an easy task. However, it was made possible in part through the use of social media channels. We decided to create an entire social media campaign with creating a LinkedIn group, a Twitter account, a Facebook Fan Page, a blog, and even a YouTube Channel. We used LinkedIn to promote the launch and introduce the new website to over 1000 of existing connections within the field.  Then we connected all the other social media accounts (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and the Blog) so that whenever a new post was added to Facebook, for example, it simultaneously gets posted in the other accounts connected to it. All this is made possible through individual applications within each account which allows you to select and connect with several social media platforms, and it’s all automatic from there.
Our Social Media Icons from MSL WORLD.com

Do you think I could have accomplished the same without an entire social media campaign?
